become a foster parent
Adopting a pet is not the only way to make a difference to an animal in need. We are all at different places in life, and not every person is able to make the lifelong commitment involved with adopting a pet. Becoming a certified foster parent through Brighter Days Animal Rescue is the perfect alternative -- our foster families are the secret to our success. Because we do not have a centralized, public location like your typical shelter, we rely on our foster homes to provide a safe place to house our animals before adoption.
What does it mean to be a foster parent?
As a foster parent for Brighter Days, your only responsibility is to provide a safe and healthy environment for the animal placed in your care. Brighter Days provides everything else. Food, a crate (if necessary), leash & collar, any medicines or costs associated with medical care... these will be covered by Brighter Days while you foster your pet.
Just keep them safe, happy, and healthy while they wait for their forever home.
What if I fall in love with my foster pet and don't want to give it up?
Foster parents are always given priority in the adoption process. If you are fostering an animal and there is interest in the animal from a potential adopter, you are our first phone call. If you feel as though you would like to officially adopt your foster pet, you are given top priority over potential adopters in doing so. Any time we can minimize the number of homes a pet has to adjust to, that's a win!
How do I become a foster parent?
You can email [email protected] for a complete breakdown of everything you'll need to expect while on your journey to becoming a certified foster home for Brighter Days. The general steps of the process include:
1. Express your interest in fostering by emailing [email protected]
2. Fill out the Foster Application as truthfully and thoroughly as possible. The more detail, the better.
3. Once the Foster Application has been screened, a phone interview will be set. This allows us to get a feel for your lifestyle, which allows us to make sure we attempt place a dog that suits your lifestyle in your care.
4. Home visit/home picture review. This allows us to get a look at the environment the animal will be living in while in your care.
5. Approved! We match an animal to place in your home.
6. Sign the Foster Contract for the animal you will be fostering. A new contract must be signed each time you are placed with a new foster pet.
The above process should take no more than a week, depending on your responsiveness!
Let's work together and save them all!
